We invite all those affected by MS, families, carers, friends and supporters to join in making their voices heard through the activities of the Shane Project

SUPPORT/ADVICE

We do not give medical advice. However, we have come to realise that when someone is first diagnosed with MS it can be very traumatic and people tend to become isolated. It is at this point that someone needs information on a number of issues ranging from benefits, physiotherapy, resource centres, to housing.

If we ourselves cannot supply this information, we will point you in the
right direction.

Emotional support is vital, it alleviates fear that can lead to depression and deepens isolation. By speaking to someone open heartedly, especially if you have had experiences, can lessen someone's fear which allows them to feel much safer and stronger.

Why do we feel this group is vital for African/Caribbean people?

1) To stop people of African Caribbean community feeling isolated and excluded

2) To provide information to people who are newly diagnosed and enabling them to deal with the condition

3) Knowledge empowers people thus putting them in control

4) To enable people to receive support from people who have an understanding of our culture and of similar background

5) Finally it could serve as a form of counselling to reduce depression
