Topic of discussion- Black Achievers in the Diaspora

The guest speaker for the day was Karice Quow. She spoke on the reasons why young black people are behaving in unacceptable ways in our society. She then discussed how preferred behavioural norms amongst black people could be brought about by understanding the origins of their African nature. She explained how young black people are portrayed in the media and how it’s affecting our children.

The minutes of last Annual General Meeting on October 30th 2010 was read by Barbara Downer.

Annual Report

Annual Report was read by the Chair Norma McFarlane.

Four of The Shane Project (TSP) mentors who went on a counselling course had passed and received a Level 2 certificate.

Achievements of the year were read. The core services for this year were Telephone Information, Advice & Support helpline, Emotional & Counselling Support, monthly Network Club, Health & Wellbeing Workshops, Awareness Raising Campaigns in Schools/Colleges and Befriending & Mentoring Service. The Chair intimated that the year has been generally good.

The Project Coordinator was thanked for her support in helping TSP to secure funding from Big Lottery. The Administrative Assistant was thanked for the work she does with the School and Colleges Outreach Programme. The Volunteer was thanked for all the work she does in organising the monthly Network Club meetings. The community accountant was thanked for helping TSP with their accounting system. The Chair also thanked the Trustees, Members, young volunteers for the well designed young people’s publicity material they produced for TSP.

Relationships & MS

Pauline one of our members spoke interestingly to everyone the importance of building up self-esteem and confidence so that other people will be attracted to you, also relationships with family members.

On behalf of the members, a Trustee thanked the Chair for all her hard work, if it wasn’t for her our community would not have known about MS.

The Project Coordinator thanked the Chair on behalf of TSP staff for all the support, hours and out of office hours she dedicates for TSP. We very much appreciate her labour of love.

Treasure’s Report/ Annual Accounts

The Treasurer presented the Financial Report and Financial Review.
